DRM Terminal Services oversees the movement of cargo at the Port of Monroe. A diversified company since 1977, DRM excels at innovating cargo handling and creating custom logistical solutions via land and sea. As the terminal operator at the Port of Monroe, they are responsible for the Port’s steady growth and reemergence as the premier cargo destination on Lake Erie.
DRM excels and set standards for bulk material loading/unloading, project cargo transportation, materials and project management and intermodal container moves. DRM delivers value and long-term prosperity to partners at the Port through continued investment in personnel, equipment and infrastructure.
The Port of Monroe continues to build upon its advantages as an intermodal cargo hub with capabilities to transfer cargo between rail, truck or vessel. The convergence of two Class I railroads (Canadian National & Norfolk Southern) and the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Seaway System within a single facility immediately adjacent to Interstate highway 75 allows goods to enter the broader transportation network more efficiently and economically.
The Port of Monroe is well suited to accommodate any project cargo. Cargoes can be handled at both of our docks with direct truck connections off both docks and rail connections off the turning basin dock. There is access to 200 acres of laydown area for storage and staging of components.
In recent seasons, the Port has become a regional distribution hub for clean wind energy components in partnership with tenant Ventower Industries. Located in Monroe is Ventower’s headquarters, manufacturing plants, and sales offices. Tower sections loaded at the Port have been shipped to other Great Lakes Ports as well as South America for wind construction projects.
The Port of Monroe has demonstrated its unique cargo handling abilities by moving a multitude of different bulk products across our dock. Bulk loading operations are conducted with mobile conveyors and front loaders. The Port can store up to 100,000 tons of product between wharfage along the Riverfront and Turning Basin dock.
The Port of Monroe is able to handle finished steel products both inbound and outbound from truck, rail, or vessel. Gerdau’s steel mill at the Port of Monroe recycles high quality scrap metal into Special Bar Quality (SBQ) steel bars.
Michigan Paving & Material’s facility at the Port of Monroe is the largest blending facility of its kind in the State of Michigan, with seven storage tanks capable of holding up to 680,000 barrels of liquid asphalt. The facility is serviced via a pipeline off of the turning basin dock, and additionally by rail.
