The Port of Monroe continues to build upon its advantages as an intermodal cargo hub with capabilities to transfer cargo between rail, truck or vessel. The convergence of two Class I railroads (Canadian National & Norfolk Southern) and the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Seaway System within a single facility immediately adjacent to Interstate highway 75 allows goods to enter the broader transportation network more efficiently and economically.

The Port of Monroe is well suited to accommodate any project cargo. Cargoes can be handled at both of our docks with direct truck connections off both docks and rail connections off the turning basin dock. There is access to 200 acres of laydown area for storage and staging of components.
In recent seasons, the Port has become a regional distribution hub for clean wind energy components in partnership with tenant Ventower Industries. Bulk loading operations are conducted with mobile conveyors and front loaders. The Port can store up to 100,000 tons of product between wharfage along the Riverfront and Turning Basin dock.
The Port of Monroe is able to handle finished steel products both inbound and outbound from truck, rail, or vessel. Gerdau’s steel mill at the Port of Monroe recycles high quality scrap metal into Special Bar Quality (SBQ) steel bars.
